The Royal Albert Hall 2006

The Venue for many of the prestige events of the UK., let alone London, this place is, perhaps, most internationally known for the Classic music Concerts called the BBC Proms and held during the summer months.

I have worked in many of the most famous and prestigious buildings in and around London during my twenty six years working in the city and region of London, but I think that none fills me with more pride of association than this one.

It is a most spectacular building. large, but not terribly by modern standards, but beautiful and as the place is explored, it becomes apparent just what a monument to Victorian Engineers and Architects it is.

Coming into the building as a contractor or visitor I was most struck by the atmosphere of the place. Unlike so many others, it has retained its own workforce and by golly it shows. To a man, those I have dealt with there have a quiet but fierce interest, if not love, of the place and a relaxed 'can do' attitude permeates throughout.

Over the last several years the place has undergone massive redevelopment. About five years ago, say 1998, I was told that works were starting but I had no idea of the scope. I did not visit again until last year and was amazed.

The Hall itself does not look much changed. However near the whole of the basement has been excavated, down some three levels and extended out under the square behind.
