Engine Room

These are the two diesel generators (Alternators) at the heart of the station. To give an idea of the size of the engines, the first and fourth pictures are taken at the crankcase level, (otherwise the block on a car engine) the height of this walkway is just a shade under six foot. The two pictures between are of the alternator (The bit that gives of the electricity) and the geared flywheel between, taken at the same level.

The fifth, thirteenth and last pictures are of the free end of the engines.

The rest of of the top level, the cylinder heads, local control gear and turbo-chargers. Each cylinder has an individual head. There are two turbo-chargers per engine with intercoolers (again connected to the hot water system to recover that heat). The Engines themselves are 'Vee' block engines.
