Boiler Room

This is the rake of boilers used to top up the hot water system when the Generators can not produce sufficient for the demand, or when they are out of use.

Steam buffs will note that the boilers are conventional horizontal multitubular boilers (Sometimes known as Economic) with some bits missing. That is because they are high pressure hot water boilers and, as such totally flooded. So no gauge glasses etc.

The vessel shown is a blow down vessel. This is used to receive the water from the boilers and cool it before passing it to the drains when the boilers are blown down (when some water is released from the boiler to reduce scaling) as water authorities do not like to have their sewers blown apart by the flash steam pressure..
