Black Start Generator
Ever wondered what would happen if all the Power Stations in the UK 'tripped out' or failed? Or wondered how a station could start up if there was no power being supplied to it?
Well this is how. They have a 'black start' set up. If you look over at a Nuclear Power station you will see a chimney, usually attached to a relatively small outbuilding. Something a Nuclear station just does not need. This is part of the black start system and is a conventional boiler house which can supply enough steam to get some of the station going.
This is the small black start system here. Simply a small diesel generator and it's own air start system.
